SONGS OF THE SEA
Saturday, November 10, 2007 — 8:00 p.m.
First Baptist Church — 10031 109 Street NW

Da Camera Singers explores choral music inspired by the forces of the sea. Featured works include Sumsion’s powerful setting of Psalm 107, “They that go down to the sea in ships,” juxtaposed with the calm waters depicted in settings of Javier Busto’s “Ave Maris Stella” and Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus.” Also featured on this program will be Jaakko Mäntyjärvi’s “Canticum Calamitatis Maritimae,” a moving tribute to those who lost their lives when the Scandinavian ferry Estonia sank in 1994.
