60th ANNIVERSARY GALA CONCERT
Sunday, May 1, 2022 – 3:00 pm Polish Hall DOWNLOAD THE CONCERT PROGRAM A delightful afternoon of choral music followed by a celebratory reception, all unfolding amongst the glittering elegance of Edmonton's Polish Hall! The concert will take a musical journey through "Da Camera then and now." The sacred music on the program looks to Da Camera's foundations in 1961 as a group of local singers presenting small concerts "to provide an occasion for singing and hearing small works from the large repertoire of church music" (Jocelyn Pritchard, founding conductor). Harpist, Nora Bumanis, will join the choir for the feature work on the program, Srul Irving Glick's sparkling masterpiece Sing unto the Lord a new song. The second half of the concert expresses who Da Camera Singers is today with the world premiere of Songs of Renewal by Edmonton composer Stuart Beatch. For this stunning new work, Beatch selected texts inspired by the choir's ideas of our story now, especially ideas of hope, resilience, and rebirth. Following the concert, the celebration will continue with light refreshments, a few words from some of our singers and past artistic directors, and to connect/reconnect with members of the Da Camera community. |
